Training
Archery is an Olympic sport and is included in the Pan American, World, Commonwealth, Para-Olympic and Asian Games. The sport is governed by the Federation International de Tir a l'Arc (FITA). There are 130 member countries within this international federation. In Canada, the Federation of Canadian Archer (FCA), founded in 1927 governs the sport. The FCA is affiliated with FITA. Within Canada, each province has a provincial sport organization- the OAA (Ontario Association of Archers) in Ontario. Ottawa Archery Club is affiliated with FCA and OAA. They provide the link between nationally coordinated programs and participant clubs, schools and recreational camps. The Ottawa Archery Club has an enrollment of over 50 members from age 7 to 80 truly demonstrating archery is a sport of all ages.

Ottawa Archers is pleased to offer an Introduction to Archery session which will introduce participants to the basics of archery so you can enjoy archery safely.
Description: Come experience the fun and safe sport of archery with Ottawa Archers! We have a great outdoor location in Ottawa.
Instruction will be provided by Charles Omdal from the Petawawa archery club. Charles has 20 year’s experience in teaching and provides 4 lessons per year at the Petawawa archery club as well as providing teaching in the Soldier On club 1 night per week for 8 weeks per year (to assist with PTSD in the military). It is proposed to hold three one day sessions at Ottawa Archers during the summer. Sessions last a full day (from 8 am to 5 pm). The number of participants in a session will be from 10 to 16. Participants must be 12 years of age or older. Individuals 16 years of age or younger must have parents sign a waiver for their participation. Training will include a review of safety issues. Distances used for training are typically 10 to 20 yards. Charles will provide the equipment (genesis bows, fiberglass arrows, targets – Petawawa archery) for the training sessions. Ottawa archers will provide access to the FITA range and targets buts. The range will be closed to the membership during the setup, training, and cleanup afterwards (range will be closed from 06:30 to 18:30 on training days). The cost of the program is $100 per individual per session.
All equipment will be provided in your introduction to archery lesson.
Prerequisite: Minimum age 12 years old. Perfect for a family. Minors MUST be accompanied by a guardian of legal age. There are 16 spots available- sign up soon!
